Catholic Bishop Speaks out on Just War

Most Reverend John Michael Botean, of the Rumanian Catholic diocese of Canton, Ohio, who said: ". . . any direct participation and support of this war against the people of Iraq is objectively grave evil, a matter of mortal sin. Beyond a reasonable doubt this war is morally incompatible with the Person and Way of Jesus Christ. With moral certainty I say to you it does not meet even the minimal standards of the Catholic just war theory. Thus, any killing associated with it is unjustified and, in consequence, unequivocally murder. Direct participation in this war is the moral equivalent of direct participation in an abortion. For the Catholics of the Eparchy of St. George, I hereby authoritatively state that such direct participation is intrinsically and gravely evil and therefore absolutely forbidden.

Is the comment given by this leader about this war only or has he commented on all other wars in the last 50 years? Did he say the same thing about the first war against Iraq a few years ago under George Bush I? If not directly making commentary, he is being disengenious. This is not a matter of faith, and where it falls into morals is questionable. If his is the voice of an 'anti-war' advocate, then its applying principles of morality where it can't be used. As the bible says - There is a time for everything under the sun - (The Byrds sang about this in the 60's and 70's - Turn, Turn, Turn). I don't like war, but find it necessary under certain circumstances. Evil spreads because good people do nothing. Jesus said that unbelivers were smart like foxes - negotiations do not work with fanatics until you prove you can take them on (Hitler, Pol Pot, Atilla the Hun, etc.) Mistakes are made but that does not mean you don't try. Blessings on that Bishop.

This IS a matter of faith, as it concerns death and destruction. There is a time for everything, but preventative attacks are not biblical, nor justifiable. It is against Just War Theory, binding on Catholics and indeed, the world. Fanatics, of times, are created by the same folks that later on attack them.

Sorry, the subjectavism by Lobo does not work. We should stay-as the Founders noted-out of others business, lesat it make enemies (and it has).
